Space, the Final frontier!
What a fantastic start to our new term!
What fun we have had setting sail with Christopher Columbus and his crew (and the occasional pirate)!
Class 1 have been voyaging across the seas in their fabulous hand built boat. We learned that Columbus navigated using the stars and with the aid of wind power and sails; neither Sat Nav nor diesel had been discovered in his times. We were very surprised to learn that until Columbus' exploration people believed that the world was flat and if you sailed too far, you would fall off the edge of the world!
In the coming week, we will be investigating the best materials for boat building; using our scientific skills to design and test a range of ideas. Along side this, we will be learning more about the places and people Columbus discovered during his travels into unchartered territory!
What a fantastic start to our new term!
Class 1 have had a busy week creating our own royal portraits! We have been experimenting with different drawing techniques as well as colours and blending. We can't wait to have a hall of fame outside our classroom once we have finished our masterpieces!
We have had a fabulous week back at school exploring and learning in our new castle. The children have enjoyed dressing up as Kings and Queens, taking it in turns to sit on the throne and writing some amazing banqueting menus for their table We can't wait to see where our learning journey is going to take us next!
Class 1 had a fantastic morning filled with skipping to raise money for the British Heart Foundation. It was great to see the children encouraging one another and having a great time, whilst doing an activity for a great cause. We would like to thank you all for your kind donations.
Class 1 had an exciting start to their morning today with a visit from some musicians from the NMPAT team. We had fun learning all about the different instruments, got to join in with some singing and enjoyed listening/clapping along to some familiar cover songs from Katy Perry, Amy Winehouse and Pink! It was fantastic to see how many children in class 1 have rhythm.
We had a fabulous day dressing up as our favourite story characters and it was lovely to see how much fun the children had in doing so! The children became really excited by their wrapped up books and shared reading with an older buddy. As well as this, we created some beautiful lilypads to support our learning on the book 'Tuesday' by David Wiesner which we are going to display with class 2's frogs.
What a busy week!
Class 1 have had a busy first week back after half term! We have been learning all about Rainforests, the different layers and the animals you might find there. We have created some super sloths by printing and sponge painting and are going to hang them from the branches on our classroom ceiling.
We have been learning how to stay safe online.
Welcome to class 1!
Firstly we would like to say a huge welcome to our new reception children who have arrived in class 1 full of smiles and confidence! It is a real pleasure to have every single one of you in class and we can’t wait to keep you all day for lots of fun learning in our new classroom. Well done to year 1 who have come back to school with lots of energy ready for the new challenges year 1 has to offer!
This term our topic is called ‘Magical Footsteps’ and we are going to be learning all about journey tales. This week we have started to recite the story of ‘The Gingerbread Man’ which will provide the basis for lots of our learning across the up and coming weeks.
Please see attached our topic letter.
Class 1 had a fantastic time when we went to see the drained canal lock and got to walk inside it! We learnt a great deal about the canal and the children behaved beautifully as ever, and it was incredibly cold!
The children have worked incredibly hard on their yoga skills and we have seen such an improvement over the term, well done class1.
